Once upon a time I played Captain Hook in a pretty lavish production of the Barry's stage play (partially adapted from the later book).
I have to say, he is one of my favorite villains ever written. I like to imagine that he's what happens to Pan when he has no more enemies to fight. Like Pan, Hook "needs a mother" and acts in childish and uncaring ways. Hook serves as Pan through a mirror darkly, where he might go without Wendy.
And, of course, pirates. I even got to sweep my cloak in front of my face and lunge offstage with only my eyes visible between the brim of my hat and my arm.
