Cinematic: Le Bossu
Phillipe de Broca's 1997 Le Bossu - released in the US as On Guard - is one of my favorite swashbucklers; Daniel Auteil, Vincent Perez, Fabrice Luchini, Marie Gillain, and Yann Collette are brilliant.
If I had to choose between this and the Lester Musketeers movies, I'd probably end up like the dog in the Roman poem.

I've somehow managed to never even hear of this. On one hand, it's a bit later than my preferred period. On the other hand, the clip you've got here is fantastic.

DeleteAh, but the Lester films have the incomparable Raquel Welch in her prime and nothing competes with that as a visual special effect.
ReplyDeleteI dunno... When Marie Gillain suddenly yanks her clothes off to go swimming, the effect was pretty special for me.
