Swordswomen of the Silver Screen

Any website with Natalie Dormer and Maureen O'Hara on the masthead automatically gets my attention.

The site includes a list of movies and television shows featuring swordswomen as well as forums for clips, art, and stories - the last three require permission from the administrator to access, however, so be patient.

And did I mention Natalie Dormer?

  1. Mmm, Natalie Dormer.

Great site -- though I must say it is quite Euro-centric. Honorable mention is made of Cheng Peipei ("Come Drink With Me") and Michelle Yeoh ("Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon"), but otherwise they seem to have completely ignored the huge Asian tradition of cinematic swordswomen, which is arguably much larger than the Western one, and which grows out of hundreds of years of genre tradition. How could they omit the kick-ass swashies in Touch of Zen, Shadowless Sword, Chocolate, Azumi, Lady Snowblood, The 14 Amazons, The Red Lotus Temple, etc, etc.?

    1. Somewhere in my euver-growing queue of posts-I-want-to-write are a couple about Eastern swashbucklers, but I'd really love to see YOUR take on the subject . . .

  2. But what about Natalie Dormer? My favorite Moriarty so far.
