I liked Capaldi's Cardinal, and the fact that there was as much gunplay as swordplay. A few of the accents clash to my English ears but enjoyed the series nonetheless.
The Cardinal is great, and a refreshing new interpretation on the character. The first few episodes are a bit weak (James Callis chanelling Lord Flashheart springs to mind), but the second half of the series is much better.
I liked it too, it was better than most of the stuff on TV these days.
I especially dug the homage to Dumas' mixed-race African heritage in the casting of Porthos.
I agree with Neil that Callis wasn't particularly awesome. And there is a bit of accent clash, what with the main characters coming from literally all around the world.
Watched the first few...not very good. I was really hoping for some swashbuckling fun but it all seemed really boring to me, and I could barely tell which character was which.
